THE STORY OF THE VINEYARD
The Prague Vineyard will captivate you with its unique atmosphere and the most beautiful views of the panorama of Malá Strana’s towers, chimneys and roofs. Breathe in the history linked with the very roots of Czech statehood. Enjoy unforgettable romantic moments amidst the oldest Czech vineyard, with a history dating back more than a thousand years.
THE OLDEST VINEYARD
The St. Wenceslas Vineyard at Villa Richter is the oldest vineyard in the Kingdom of Bohemia. This site, one of the most beautiful places in Prague, was chosen by St. Wenceslas, who tended the vines with his own hands. Following general refurbishment in 2008, the vineyard is now open to the public for the first time in history.
The southern slope in the immediate vicinity of the majestic Prague Castle has been used for cultivating vines since the early 10th century. The vineyard grows the two finest varieties of the northern wine-growing regions – Ryzlink rýnský (Riesling) and Rulandské modré (Pinot Noir). The wines made from these grapes are some of the best in the Czech Republic.
The vineyard also offers a great opportunity to go outside and enjoy the fresh air, taking in unforgettable views of Prague. One option is the sightseeing route, lined with almost forty other wine varieties registered in the Variety Book of the Czech Republic.
